The Chairman of the Mercian Regional Football League was invited to attend this event by Ian Preece, Club Secretary. To say it was a privilege, was a huge understatement, in terms of the work that Ian put in. His work with disabled young male footballers in the Telford area, was recognized with his award as one of many Paralympic torchbearers ( a story previously covered in the Shropshire Star) and his foresight to involve around 30 of them in two games at this event was an amazing spectacle, that followed on from the great Team GB paralympics. The Chairman was moved, witnessing the sheer joy on their faces, wearing Telford Juniors FC kit, as the "junior academy team" played the Telford Juniors FC girls team. Ian is also working with this squad of girls, and it is indeed a testament to his personal committment to both groups. In between the first game, Borough Councillor Brian Duce, the mayor of Greater Dawley Parish Council, officially opened the new dugouts, and along with local Borough Councillor Shaun Davies, who together were able to secure the funding, from the Parish Council and Telford & Wrekin Council, enabled local firm G&N Ground Works to complete the scheme. This was followed by the Telford Juniors FC academy team playing a Telford Juniors FC veterans team. Both games were competitive affairs, but it was the joy of witnessing two great games of football, played by four teams of footballers, representing Telford Juniors FC.
